I have photographed a couple of maternity boudoir sessions and always find them to be a fun challenge. I’ve always liked photographing maternity photos as I like making them different and outside the box from the traditional “hands in the shape of a heart over the belly” and “blocks spelling out the baby name”. I liked showing my clients personality through them and when paired with boudoir it’s really a lot of fun. The challenging part comes from the main focus of your shoot (the belly) being in the center of the person in front of your camera. Challenging, but rewarding.
I also think it’s important to have a sexy shoot just for yourself while pregnant because your body is changing daily and these changes can sometimes be difficult for women to deal with. It’s a good reminder that your body is still your own and is a powerful and wondrous thing. That you are still beautiful and sexy and strong.
This sweet girl has been in the studio a couple of times before and over time we have gotten to know each other better. We connected right away over life and smaller details of our personalities and she is such a sweetheart. She hadn’t told anyone but her husband at the time, but she was actually 8 weeks pregnant when she we shot this look in our black and gold set. She laughs now, looking back thinking she was already showing then.
I wanted to gift her something special for their little miracle baby boy. She was excited about the idea of a maternity boudoir shoot and looked just as fabulous as the first time I photographed her. She is due in a couple of weeks but said she has a feeling her little boy is going to be making an early debut and I know she and her husband can’t wait.
Here’s what she had to say when she saw the images for the first time.
“Let me just say… wow! these pictures that i have seen so far, are AMAZING! Thank you so much for capturing such a beautiful time in my life. It took so long to get here with this beautiful baby. It means so much to me, having these images to document such a special time. Even as a confident pregnant woman, I still have my days where my body doesn’t always feel like my own. Thank you for showing me that with a growing baby belly and all; I am still me. You have such an amazing talent and ability to make women look and feel comfortable in front of you, clothed or not. These aren’t just pictures, they are memories I will forever cherish, captured to be able to look back on whenever Thank you so much for making me feel beautiful. Thank you for capturing not just an image, but my attitude and soul in an image. I absolutely adore you and love working with you.”
